What happens after you send your details

Your only job is to describe what you are hearing or not hearing. The audiologist handles the rest, from reading your notes to booking you in at a clinic near your home.

What you do

  1. Fill in the short form about your hearing
  2. Attend your scheduled appointment

What a specialist does

  1. Read your description and decide which test fits
  2. Call you to arrange a time and place
  3. Run the full assessment at the clinic
  4. Explain what the results mean for your daily life
  5. Recommend next steps if any are needed

How the audiologist checks your hearing

A hearing test follows a fixed order because each stage rules out a different cause. Starting with the simplest check stops anyone from assuming a problem that is not there.

  1. Ear canal inspection

The audiologist looks inside your ear with an otoscope. This shows whether wax, fluid or swelling is blocking sound before any electronic tests begin.

  2. Tympanometry

A soft probe measures how your eardrum moves under gentle air pressure. Stiffness or too much movement points to middle ear problems rather than nerve damage.

  3. Pure tone audiometry

You listen to tones through headphones and press a button when you hear them. The audiologist plots the quietest sounds you detect at each pitch.

  4. Speech discrimination testing

You repeat words played at different volumes. This shows whether your ears pick up speech clearly or struggle even when sounds are loud enough.

If results conflict, the audiologist repeats the relevant stage or refers you for further medical assessment.

Tell the clinic what you are experiencing

Sending your details costs nothing and does not commit you to a test or treatment. You are simply asking a local audiologist to look at what is going on with your hearing.
